The intimate conviction and evidence
Forget for a time the dull flatness of a Bellemare, the blandness of unsurpassed Brammertz, the certainty of conquering Mehlis. Also forget the serenity of an ostentatious Assad, the foolish fears of Nasrallah, the dance of seven veils of Jumblatt and Hariri a dripping effusions. Rather we focus on these few lines:
" 61. The Mission considers that the Syrian government is primarily responsible for the political tension preceding the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The Syrian government has pursued an explicit influence that goes beyond a relationship of cooperation and good neighborliness. This government has interfered in every detail of governance in Lebanon, he has been heavy handed and was adamant, which led to political polarization that ensued. Without predicting the results of the investigation, it is obvious that this atmosphere has woven the background that led to the assassination of Rafik Hariri. *
Everything is there, the key to the murder, its causes and mobile. Peter Fitzgerald had been on target. Everything else is blah and dressing, the Islamists, the pilgrims 'Australian', the group of thirteen and Israelis, negotiations, arrangements and small maneuvers, plots we create, we hastens to bury the better to invent other, intimidation and threats are just crap and pipes wood.
Whether we succeed for reasons "highly strategic" to misrepresent the data in order to save Syria and we are looking instead to push Hezbollah to better reach Iran does not change anything in the case, the two allies are at the heart of the case and will remain so forever. The conviction of the Lebanese is indeed made and it will not budge one iota.
Will we one day be "irrefutable proof" that confuse the killers? Nobody knows, but Hassan Nasrallah is convinced.
